LYNCHBURG, Va. – Jacksonville State started its first-ever series with Liberty on fire as it pounded out 17 hits in an 11-4 series-opening win over the Flames on Friday night at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
The Gamecocks (22-23, 15-7 ASUN) orchestrated two big innings in the contest to take control early. Jax State went through the lineup one time in the first inning with four runs off of LU's Garrett Horn, one of the top lefthanded pitchers in the ASUN. The Gamecocks were able to chase him after a 38-pitch first inning. JSU broke open a 4-1 contest with its 11th five or more runs in an inning this season after collecting six hits and making it a 9-1 lead in the fourth inning. The inning was highlighted by senior
T.J. Reeves three-run home run over the left field wall. Senior
Carson Crowe added an RBI double in the big inning, followed by an RBI single from senior
Jarrett Eaton, who finished the night with three hits and reached base four times.
Crowe put Jax State's 10th run on the board to start the sixth inning with a solo home run over the right field wall. The Gamecocks have now scored in double digits in 11 ASUN games. Junior
Javon Hernandez capped off the scoring for JSU with an RBI double in the eighth. Hernandez, the leading hitter in the ASUN, finished with four hits on the night to move his season total to 77 on the season. Eaton and Hernandez were two of five Gamecocks with multiple hits as everyone in the lineup had a hit. Junior

Brennen Norton and Crowe all had two hits in the win.
The offensive production allowed sophomore
AJ Causey to cruise to his fifth win of the season after five innings of solid work. He limited LU to four hits and fanned eighth Flames in the outing. Junior
Will Baker finished the final three innings to tally his second save of the season. Baker recorded four strikeouts in his work to combine for 12 strikeouts by the two Gamecock pitchers.
The two clubs will continue the series on Saturday with a 3 p.m. CST contest. The game will be carried on the Gamecock Sports Network.
