Jax State Drops a Tight One at MTSU

MURFREESBORO, TN. – Jax State dropped their first match of the weekend at Middle Tennessee State on Saturday three sets to one.

The Gamecocks (7-13, 0-7) won the first set over MTSU (7-12, 3-4) 28-26. The Blue Raiders took the next three sets 25-17, 28-26, and 25-22. Jax State had 50 kills, 10 service aces, 48 assists, 51 digs, and five blocks in the match.

"Really happy with the girls tonight," head coach Derek Schroeder said. "That was a hostile gym to play in and MTSU played well. We matched their intensity, and our execution improved all match long. We had two chances to win set three and go up 2-1, we just missed, and you usually regret that on the road."

Sanni Rantanen had an efficient night on the court with 12 kills on 17 attempts for a .625 hit percentage. Rantanen also added seven digs, two service aces, and two blocks. Kayla Williams led the Gamecocks 18 kills. Williams also added seven digs.

Ellie Garrett had 43 assists, four digs, three kills, a service ace, and a block. Brooklyn Schiffli had a team-high 17 digs against the Blue Raiders. Madison Konopka joined Williams and Rantanen with seven digs.

The Gamecocks and MTSU will play Sunday at 2 p.m. The match will not be streaming on ESPN+ but live stats will be available at JaxStateSports.com.
