JACKSONVILLE – The Jax State volleyball team fell in three sets to the visiting UTEP Miners Friday evening at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Gamecocks (7-15, 0-9) lost to the Miners (19-2, 9-0) by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and ended the match in a tight 25-23 third set. Jax State had 36 digs, 33 kills, 32 assists, and five service aces.
"They're really, really good at producing points," head coach
Derek Schroeder said. "They're better than any team in our conference by two points a set at producing points. If we weren't going to come out, at the very least, make them earn their points, we were going to have a really short night. We did that, we played really well that way."
Jax State was led in kills by
Kayla Williams with 14 on a .225 hit percentage.
Sanni Rantanen had the next highest with seven.
Ellie Garrett tallied 28 assists in the match and
Brooklyn Schiffli led the team in digs with 10.
Luci Wilkinson had a solid outing with seven digs, respectively.
The Gamecocks and Miners will face off again Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pete. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+, live stats will be available at JaxStateSports.com, and admission to all home volleyball matches is free for fans.
