JACKSONVILLE – The Gamecocks lost in three sets on Saturday afternoon to the UTEP Miners at home.
Jax State (7-16, 0-10) lost the first set 25-14, the second set 25-20, and the third set 25-17 to the Miners (20-2, 10-0). The Gamecocks tallied 32 digs, 30 assists, and 30 kills in the match.
"Things got a little testy in the second set and I really liked how my team responded to that and played a really, really good set of volleyball," head coach
Derek Schroeder said. "That's a really good volleyball team, really well coached, and they came at us with everything they had in set. We were right there with them, right until the end, 20-19, something like that. I hope this team can look at the remainder of the schedule and build on that, how well we played at spurts against the best team in the league."
Kayla Williams led the way in kills with 12 for Jax State on a .280 hit percentage.
Hana Aiana had the next best number of kills with six on a .267 hit percentage.
Brooklyn Schiffli had a team-best 12 digs, while
Ellie Garrett led the Gamecocks in assists with 24. Garrett also added eight digs, respectively.
Next week, the Gamecocks travel to Sam Houston for matches on Thursday, Oct. 24, and Friday, Oct. 25. The games will be streaming on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at JaxStateSports.com.
