JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jax State looks to build upon a 2-0 conference start on Wednesday when Middle Tennessee comes to town. The Gamecocks host the Blue Raiders for a "black out" game at 6:30 p.m. at AmFirst Stadium.

Series History
The Gamecocks take on the Blue Raiders for the 24th time in a series that dates back to 1927. MTSU was 13-0-2 in the first 15 meetings and holds an 18-3-2 edge in the series. Jax State has won the last two meetings with a 10-7 win in Jacksonville in 1998 and last year,rallied from a 23-7 halftime deficit in Murfreesboro to win 45-30. Tight end

Jacksonville State is entering its second season as members of Conference USA and posted an overall 6-2 record in CUSA last year. Huffing and Puffing
Quarterback
Tyler Huff has been getting the job done for Jax State through the air and on the ground. He currently ranks 16th in FBS in yards per completion at 14.26 and is 18th in yards per rush at 6.62. He is the only FBS player ranked in the top 20 in both categories. Huff has thrown for at least 150 yards in all six games and has five games with 50+ rushing yards. In the game at Louisville, he completed 17 passes for 160 yards and a score and rushed for 101 yards and an additional touchdown. Huff had a season-best 176 rushing yards on 15 carries with three scores in the game at Kennesaw State which was the fifth-most rushing yards in a game by a quarterback in Conference USA history.

Tre Stewart has scored seven touchdowns over his last two games and has recorded 11 total scores in six games. Stewart found the endzone four times on 24 carries for 134 yards against Kennesaw State and followed it up with 118 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and added a 32-yard touchdown reception. Stewart is in his first season at Jax State after rushing for 2,994 yards and 24 touchdowns in 32 games at Division II Limestone the last three seasons.

The Gamecocks are currently eighth in the FBS in takeaways with a total of 15 through six games. Their six fumble recoveries is 13th-most nationally and their nine interceptions is 15th most. Jax State has three straight games with three or more takeaways. Last season, Jax State ranked in both the top ten in the FBS in both forced fumbles (9th) with 15 and interceptions (5th) with 16. The Gamecocks tied for the ninth most turnovers gained last season.

Rich Rodriguez enters the NMSU game in seventh place among active FBS head coaches in career wins. In his 27th season as a head coach, Rodriguez has a 184-128-2 career record. Rodriguez made head coaching stops at Salem, Glenville State, West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona prior to landing at Jax State ahead of the 2022 season.
