MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State soccer team dropped its first Conference USA road match on Thursday with a 3-0 setback to Middle Tennessee.

The Gamecocks dropped 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the league while the Blue Raiders picked up their fifth win on the season an second in CUSA action.

MTSU broke the scoreless contest in the 33rd minute with a goal from Taijah Fraser after she got behind the Jax State line of defense. The blue Raiders capitalized on a set piece off of a free kick two minutes later from Manon Lebargy. After taking a 2-0 advantage into the halftime break, Lebargy was involved in MTSU's third goal with an assist to Idun Kvaale in the 57th minute.

The scoring plays off of the set pieces proved too be big in the match as Jax State held a 13-11 advantage in total shots and tallied nine in the second half. Graduate Melissa Kuya Strobel posted a match-high four shots in the setback. Junior Nancy Almanza and junior Nanaka Inaba turned in four and three shots respectively.

"In the middle third of the pitch, I thought we dominated the ball and we did exactly what we wanted to do in that area," said head coach Sean Fraser. "The problem we have had all season is giving up goals on the set pieces. We have given a few freebies away, so as a group, we have to learn how to play more."

The Gamecocks return to action on Sunday with a trip to Bowling Green, Kentucky for a 1 p.m. match with Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers played to a 1-1 draw with Kennesaw State on Thursday evening on the WKU campus.
