Gamecocks to Clash With Flames During Weekday CUSA

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Jax State enters Lynchburg riding a four-game winning streak, and is set to match up with the reigning CUSA Champion Liberty Flames on Wednesday Night at 6 p.m. at Williams Stadium.

Big Numbers in Jacksonville
Jacksonville State has tallied 2,191 yards of total offense in the last four games dating back to Sept. 21 against Southern Miss, stringing together an average of 547.75 yards per contest in that stretch. Jax State has surpassed the 500-yard mark in each of the four games, with the highest mark coming on Oct. 9 at Kennesaw State with 577 yards. 
 
Runnin' Wild
Jax State is the only team in Conference USA to eclipse the 300 rushing yard mark in a game this season. The Gamecocks have surpassed the 300-yard mark in three consecutive games, most recently with 438 yards on 55 carries (8.0 yards per carry) last week against Middle Tennessee. 
 
Weekday Action
During the 2023 season, Jacksonville State posted a 5-1 record during "Weekday CUSA." Jacksonville State is entering its second season as members of Conference USA and posted an overall 6-2 record in CUSA last year. Jax State is 3-0 in conference play to open up the 2024 campaign and 2-0 on Wednesday's this year. 
 
Big Play Pettway
Jax State senior wide receiver Michael Pettway is averaging 19.24 yards per reception so far this season, a mark that puts him fourth in CUSA. Pettway has hauled in 17 catches for 327 yards this season while adding a team-leading three touchdowns. 
 
Tre Touchdowns
Senior running back Tre Stewart has scored eight touchdowns over his last three games and has recorded 12 total scores in seven games. Stewart found the end zone four times on 24 carries for 134 yards against Kennesaw State and followed it up with 118 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and added a 32-yard touchdown reception. Last week against Middle Tennessee, he became the first CUSA running back to record 200 yards in a game since DeWayne McBride of LA Tech on 11/26/22. Stewart is in his first season at Jax State after rushing for 2,994 yards and 24 touchdowns in 32 games at Division II Limestone College.
 
Turnover Party
The Gamecocks are currently 17th in the FBS in takeaways with a total of 15 through seven games. Their six fumble recoveries is 18th-most nationally and their nine interceptions is 29th-most. Last season, Jax State ranked in both the top ten in the FBS in both forced fumbles (9th) with 15 and interceptions (5th) with 16. The Gamecocks tied for the ninth most turnovers gained last season. Jax State has a turnover margin of +10 during the current four-game winning streak. 
 
At the Top of the FBS
Jax State head coach Rich Rodriguez enters the Liberty game in seventh place among active FBS head coaches in career wins. In his 27th season as a head coach, Rodriguez has a 185-128-2 career record. Rodriguez made head coaching stops at Salem, Glenville State, West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona prior to landing at Jax State ahead of the 2022 season.
