LYNCHBURG, VA. – Jacksonville state lost in four sets Friday evening against Liberty. The match was highly competitive throughout with tight scores separating the two squads in all four sets.
"I thought our game plan was solid tonight, and the girls did a great job executing," head coach
Derek Schroeder said. "We just didn't quite make enough plays when we needed to get a road win. Liberty was on it tonight and played great. They are tough to beat in their arena. We will make some adjustments and be ready for another fun match up tomorrow afternoon."
The Gamecocks (7-9, 0-3) took the first set of the match from the Flames (9-6, 3-0) by a score of 25-20. Liberty rattled off three-straight wins by scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-23. The Gamecocks had 56 digs, 47 kills, 44 assists, nine blocks, and eight service aces in the match.
Caty Havekost had her best performance of the season with 14 kills on a .355 hit percentage. The Gamecocks' leading hitter on the year
Kayla Williams added 10 kills, respectively, and added the second-best dig total on the night with 10.
Brooklyn Schiffli led the team in digs with 12.
Luci Wilkinson added nine digs and had team-high three aces.
Madison Konopka and
Ellie Garrett both had eight digs. Garrett also had 35 assists, four kills, two aces, and two blocks.
Katelyn Crofts led the Gamecocks in blocks with seven total.
