Jax State Loses to Kennesaw at Home

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State lost to Kennesaw State in five sets on Wednesday afternoon inside Pete Mathews Coliseum.

The Gamecocks (7-12, 0-6) won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-15. Kennesaw (6-11, 3-3) stormed back in the third in fourth sets to win both by scores of 26-24 to force a fifth set. In the fifth, it was all Kennesaw in a 15-8 final set.

"I feel like we played much better today," head coach Derek Schroeder said. "At least we are back to a point where we outproduced our opponent. We just didn't find a way to finish the third set or the fourth set and win the match."

Brooklyn Schiffli had 20 digs in Wednesday's match against the Owls. Her career total is now up to 1,039 digs with 12 more regular season matches remaining. Schiffli had a pair of kills in the match also. Ellie Garrett had 41 assists and seven kills to continue her solid season.

Sanni Rantanen had her best game as a Gamecock against Kennesaw. She posted seven kills on 10 attempts and added seven blocks. Kayla Williams led the Gamecocks in kills 22. Luci Wilkinson had a good outing on the backrow with 13 digs.

"I made a small adjustment on defense in the fifth set, and it did not go well and put us on our heels," Schroeder added. "That's my bad entirely. I loved our push back after getting down there, we just dug a big hole."

Jax State will move on to face Middle Tennessee on Saturday, Oct. 12, and Sunday, Oct. 13. The games will be broadcasting on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at JaxStateSports.com.
