JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jax State men's basketball looks to renew a rivalry with a familiar foe on Wednesday when it welcomes Georgia State to town for the first time in nearly 16 years. The Gamecocks are set to meet with the Panthers on the hardwood at 6 p.m. at the Pete Mathews Coliseum for the first matchup since 2008.

Jax State dropped the road opener on Nov. 7 to Air Force, 73-67. Jax State took a 30-22 lead into the half, but could not overcome a scorching Falcon offense in the second half that outscored the Gamecocks 51-37.
Jaron Pierre Jr. led the way with 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field.
Series History
Jax State and Georgia State have met 34 times previous to Wednesday's contest. The Gamecocks are set to meet with the Panthers for the first time since 2008, when Jax State defeated GSU 80-73 in double overtime in Atlanta. Jax State holds the all-time edge over the former fellow ASUN Conference members 23-11 and has a 12-4 advantage in games played in Jacksonville.

After a stellar opening night performance,
Jaron Pierre Jr. continued to shine for the Gamecocks, putting up a 21 point performance despite Jax State picking up its first loss of the season to Air Force. Pierre shot 8-for-15 from the field in his second game as a Gamecock. In his first appearance with the team, Pierre had a game-high 24-point performance against LaGrange.

Michael Houge leads the team with 23 rebounds, averaging 11.5 per contest. Houge pulled down 12 boards in his season opener against LaGrange before adding 11 more to his total against Air Force last week. Houge is also averaging 14 points per contest. The senior from Detroit, Mich. ranks 16th in the country in rebounds per game.

Gamecocks Dominate at The Pete
Jacksonville State opened up the 2024-25 campaign with an efficient, 112-68 win over the LaGrange Panthers. The +64 point differential is the fourth best margin of victory in program history and is the second largest win since 1965, trailing just a 125-55 win over Brescia in 2015. Jax State is 45-24 in The Pete across the last six seasons, including a 19-5 record in non-conference home games in that time.
