The Gamecocks had a tough day on Sunday in the championship round of the Garden State Classic, dropping three matches to finish fourth.

Jax State led the tournament in total pinfall after each of the first two days and won eight of their 10 total matches with a 210.7 average per game. The Gamecocks racked up 5,428 pins during Baker play and 5,105 during traditional play.

In the first match on Sunday, Nebraska raced out to a 3-0 lead, but Jax State answered with wins in the fourth and fifth games 210-168 and 213-160, but the Cornhuskers notched six straight strikes and picked up single pin spares in the seventh and eighth frames to end the contest with a 233-121 win.

Jax State then faced Youngstown State for a chance to get back into the first-place match. After dropping the first 226-206, they won the second 213-181. The Gamecocks had an opportunity to take the third after the Penguins had three splits that they failed to convert, but just two strikes by Jax State left it short, 169-160. YSU won the final two games 246-168 and 226-165.

In the third-place match, Jax State trailed 2-0 but won the next two, highlighted by nine-straight strikes to close the game with a 245-222 win. Vanderbilt answered with six-straight strikes in the fifth to win it 230-213. The Gamecocks then won the sixth with a string of five strikes after leaving the first frame open, then finished with five more following a two-pin spare for a 256-201 win. Unfortunately, the Commodores scored the winner-take-all seventh by the count of 205-180.

Anna Warkel was named to the all-tournament team finishing 10
th in the field with a 210.2 average during traditional play.

The Gamecocks return to action in January when they head to New Castle, Delaware for the Northeast Classic the 17
th through the 19
th.
