Jax State Football Takes on LA Tech

RUSTON, La. – Jax State takes on the Bulldogs of LA Tech Saturday afternoon at Aillet Stadium looking to extend its five-game win streak and become bowl eligible for the second time in its second season playing in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Runnin' Wild
The Gamecocks have surpassed the 300-yard mark in each of their last four games, which includes a 232-yard performance by Tre Stewart at Liberty. Stewart was the Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week after becoming the first Jax State back since Troymaine Pope in 2015 to rush for 200 yards or more in back-to-back games.
 
Big Numbers in Jacksonville
This season, Jax State is averaging 464.9 yards per game, ranking 12th most in the nation. The Gamecocks have posted at least 300 yards of total offense in seven games and have six with 400 or more, and four 500-yard performances.  
Weekday Warriors
In "Weekday CUSA" games over the last two seasons, Jax State is 7-1 and is playing on a Saturday for the first time since its Week 4 matchup against Southern Miss (9/21). The five non-Saturday games the Gamecocks played this season tied for the most in the Football Bowl Subdivision and finished with a 4-1 record in those games.  
 
Second Half Success
Over the last six games, Jax State has outscored its opponents 145-37 in the second half. This season, the Gamecocks have averaged 19.9 points per game in the second half which is fifth-most nationally.  
 
Tre Touchdowns
In the game at Liberty, running back Tre Stewart rushed for four touchdowns, becoming one of just three players in FBS with multiple four-touchdown games. His 16 total touchdowns is sixth-most in the FBS and his 12 points per game is also sixth-most. Stewart is in his first season at Jax State after rushing for 2,994 yards and 24 touchdowns in 32 games at Division II Limestone College. He is 66 yards away from his third consecutive 1,000-yard season.
 
Turnover Party
The Gamecocks are currently 17th in the FBS in takeaways with a total of 16 through eight games. Their six fumble recoveries is 26th-most nationally and their 10 interceptions is 25th-most. Last season, Jax State ranked in both the top ten in the FBS in both forced fumbles (9th) with 15 and interceptions (5th) with 16. The Gamecocks tied for the ninth most turnovers gained last season. Jax State has a turnover margin of +10 during the current five-game winning streak. 
 
Hughes Impact
Linebacker Reginald Hughes has recorded at least a half sack in five of his last six games played and leads the Gamecocks in tackles for loss with eight and 39 yards lost.
 
Series History
The teams meet for just the third time since 1939 with the Gamecocks having won last year's meeting at home and the Bulldogs winning the first meeting in Ruston in 1939.

At the Top of the FBS
Jax State head coach Rich Rodriguez enters the Liberty game in seventh place among active FBS head coaches in career wins. In his 27th season as a head coach, Rodriguez has a 186-128-2 career record. Rodriguez made head coaching stops at Salem, Glenville State, West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona prior to landing at Jax State ahead of the 2022 season.
