CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Jax State fell to former Ohio Valley Conference counterpart, Murray State, on Sunday by a final score of 3-1 to conclude the weekend in Tennessee.
 
As they did most of the weekend, the Gamecocks struck first when freshman Amber Reed scored on a throwing error in the second inning to put Jax State on top, 1-0.
 
Senior Sarah Currie started in the circle for the Gamecocks and carried a no hitter through three innings, but the Racers eventually caught up the second time around. Still a 1-0 game in the fifth, Murray State finally put its first hit on the board by way of a triple that soon came home to tie things up on a sacrifice bunt. The Racers tacked on a few more hits and brought two more runners around to score for a 3-run inning to take the lead. Freshman MacKinley Portillo got the final out of the frame and retired the side in the sixth as well.
 
Jax State couldn't climb back from the deficit compiling just one hit over the final two innings.
 
After the opening two weekends on the road, Jax State will play at home for the first time this season on Wednesday hosting Chattanooga at Jana McGinnis Field. The Gamecocks will then remain at home for the Cocky Classic Feb. 23-25.
