LYNCHBURG, Va. – Jax State dropped the series finale at Liberty by a 6-1 final score on Sunday to wrap up the opening league series of the season.
The Gamecocks (10-18, 0-3 CUSA) struggled with three losses to the Flames over the weekend. Following back-to-back shutouts, Jax State found its lone run of the series on a
Kenzie Nicholson two-out RBI in the second on Sunday to tie the game at 1-1.
Amber Reed took the loss in the circle giving up four runs in 2.1 innings of work.
Kat Carter, Friday's starter, tossed 2.2 innings of two-hit ball and allowed a run in relief, along with
Sarah Currie's one inning.
Offensively, Jax State got baserunners aboard, but only brought in the one run leaving seven stranded on Sunday. Nicholson was the only Gamecock to reach base multiple times as she found her way to first on three occasions with a single, a walk and hit-by-pitch.
Jax State will look to bounce back in a midweek contest at Chattanooga, before hosting Middle Tennessee for the first home CUSA series of the season beginning on Friday at
Jana McGinnis Field.
