JACKSONVILLE – Gamecock men's tennis rolled to a big 6-1 win Saturday afternoon over North Alabama. Jacksonville State won the doubles point and never looked back, picking up their fifth victory in six matches.
"It was a great team match today," head coach
Trey Morris said. "This is a really good North Alabama team. Their coaching staff does a really good job with them; they're always tough to play and today was no different. It was a true fight on every single court. We had four three-setters, and we won all four, so that's a lot of credit to our guys for staying focused and tough."
Marko Milosavljevic and
Zach Murphy opened doubles play with a 6-1 triumph on court one, then
Logan Haga and
Xavier Sarda Marti clinched the opening point for Jax State (8-5) with a 6-4 victory in No. 3 doubles. In addition,
Vanja Dobrnjac and
Lucius Soller were battling 5-5 in the second flight when action was stopped.
Following a UNA (7-4) win in No. 5 singles early on, the Red-and-White concluded the match with five straight triumphs. Milosavljevic (6-1, 6-2) picked up a two-setter on court four before
Vanja Dobrnjac (2-6, 6-4, 6-4),
Alin Fatu (6-4, 6-7 [5-7], 6-4), Sarda Marti (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), and
Liam Day (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) finished with three-set results.
"I'm very happy with this great 6-1 win," Morris said. "We've got Georgia Southern on Monday, so come out, come early, stay late, and support your Gamecocks as we take on the Eagles."
The men's tennis team returns home Monday to meet Georgia Southern. That match, which was postponed from its original date on Sunday, will have a 1 p.m. first serve at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
