Gamecocks Finish Strong, Win Twice To Open At ITC

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ky. – Just days after claiming the 2024 NCAA National title, the Jacksonville State bowling team is on a quest for another one.

A long first day of the 2024 Intercollegiate Bowling Championships on Thursday saw the Gamecocks qualify fourth in the 16-team field and then grab a pair of wins to start bracket play.

The total pinfall from 24 Baker games seeded the teams, and after the first block of 12 games Jax State found itself in 12th place. The final 12 games were different, with the Gamecocks totaling 2,659 pins, over 100 more than the closest competitor, to pull into fourth place in the qualifying round.

The impressive bowling didn't stop once play in the double-elimination, Baker best-of-seven bracket began. The Gamecocks (105-123) claimed a 4-1 win over 13th seeded St. Xavier, setting up a second-round matchup with Conference USA foe Louisiana Tech.

Jax State won that matchup, as well, taking a 4-2 victory over the Bulldogs that advanced them into the semifinals of the Red Bracket. They will meet top-seeded Mount Mercy at 1 p.m. ET on Friday, with the winner advancing top the Red Bracket Championship.

The winner of the Red Bracket will advance to the ITC Championship Match on Saturday, which will be recorded for a tape delay broadcast on CBS Sports Network.

Also on Saturday will be the Intercollegiate Singles Championships, in which graduate senior Crystal Elliott has advanced to the semifinals. Elliott will face Lindenwood's Hailey Burch in her semifinal match, and both semifinal and the final match will each be televised on a tape delay basis, as well.

All of the Gamecocks' matches on Friday will be streamed online at BowlTV.com.
