DALLAS –
Erik Jansson, Jacksonville State's star senior golfer, was honored by Conference USA on Friday, when he was named to the league's All-Academic Team.
Jansson, a native of Vasteras, Sweden, and Jax State's undisputed leader on the links, has also been a leader for Jax State in the classroom. He carries a 3.93 grade point average as a finance major for the Gamecocks, while also leading the team with a 70.8 adjusted scoring average.
He was one of just five players from the league that made the team, one that was voted on by the CUSA's lead academic advisors. Jansson is no stranger to academic honors, being named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year a year ago.
He has been the Gamecocks' best golfer for the past two seasons and one of the best in CUSA this season. Jansson has been named the CUSA Golfer of the Week five times this season after playing in just nine events.
Through 29 rounds this season, 19 have been under par and 21 par or better. Jansson has two wins this season – Arkansas State's Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate and the World Golf Village Collegiate – and six top-five finishes in eight events. He had six-straight top-fives at one point during the season.
Jansson will lead the Gamecocks in their final event of the season, the CUSA Championship that starts on Monday at the Texarkana (Ark.) Country Club.
