TEXARKANA, Ark. – Led by an all-tournament performance from senior
Isaac MacNaughton, the Jacksonville State men's golf team wrapped up its 2023-24 season at the Conference USA Championship on Wednesday.
MacNaughton, playing in his final collegiate event, fired a 5-under 67 in his final collegiate round on Wednesday to earn all-tournament honors and tie for fifth in the event. The native of Truro, Nova Scotia shot a 54-hole 215 (1-under) on the par-72, 6,969-yard Texarkana Country Club and led the Gamecocks to an eighth-place finish.
MacNaughton, who'd opened the three-day event with a first-round 73 on Monday and a 75 on Tuesday, knew he needed to get hos final round off to a hot start. He did just that, making five birdies on the front nine and turning with a 5-under 31. He offset a pair of bogeys on the back nine with two birdies and almost drained a 35-footer on the 18
th hole that would've made three on the back.
Hos final-round 67 catapulted him 12 spots up the 39-player leaderboard on the final day and secured his second-straight top-five finish. His fourth top-10 of his senior campaign was also his second-straight tournament as Jax State's top finisher.
The Gamecocks played their best round of the tournament on Wednesday, shooting a 292 after back-to-back rounds of 299 on Monday and Tuesday. Louisiana Tech finished first in the stroke play portion of the event, which advanced its top-four finishers into Thursday's match play bracket.
