JACKSONVILLE—Jax State Athletic Director Greg Seitz announced the promotion of
Robbie Fields to Director of Golf for the university. Additionally, Sylas Elliot has been hired on as the Head Men's Golf Coach.
Fields has been the head coach of the women's golf team for the past two seasons and helped guide the Gamecocks to their first team win since February of 2022 this past February at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate at Hammock Creek.
"I am excited to be part of the future of our Jax State men's golf team," said Fields. "We have a rich history that will be carried on through daily commitment to and belief in a high standard."
Prior to Jax State, Fields was an assistant coach at East Carolina and Mississippi State.
"Robbie has done a terrific job raising the standard of our women's team and establishing a great culture," said Seitz. "I'm excited for our men's team to benefit from his coaching and enthusiasm."
Elliot joins the Gamecocks from Wallace State Community College where he has been the men's golf coach since 2019. He also spent three months as the assistant coach before becoming interim head coach for the balance of the 2019 season.
"I'm very excited to join and this lead this program," said Elliot. "I am aware of the rich history of Jax State and I'm proud to build on that. Jacksonville State feels like home and I'm very thankful to the administration and
Robbie Fields for the opportunity."
His teams have been ranked in the Top 15 each season and has coached five Freshman Golfers of the Year. As a player, Elliot was a two-time National Championship All-American and a semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award.
"I have known Sylas for most of my life and one thing is for sure: he is going to work his tail off for our young men," said Fields. "He is someone who cares immensely about those around him and will do whatever he can to make them better people, friends, family members, and athletes."
The men's team picked up a win in their final regular season event last season at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Kannapolis, N.C. with both
Isaac MacNaughton and
Santiago Bailleres finishing fourth and ninth, respectively on the individual leaderboard.
