Gamecocks Drop Tough Sunday Decision To Chattanooga

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State dropped a 1-0 decision to region rival Chattanooga on Sunday evening at the Jax State Soccer Complex.

The Gamecocks fell to 2-3 overall after a tough weekend of setbacks to UNC Asheville last Thursday and Sunday's decision to the Mocs, who notched their first win of the season.

UTC made a goal in the 37th minute withstand a bevy of Jax State chances in the second half to equalize and take the lead. UTC's Caroline Richvalsky finished off a free kick opportunity with the assist going to Zoey Mize. The Gamecocks doubled up the Mocs in total shots with a 14-7 edge but could not connect in the back of the net.

"It was very similar to Thursday, had position in the game and particularly in the second half – played the whole second half in their end of the field. It was a bit technical delivery that has let us down and we lost on a set play, which was a disappointment," said head coach Sean Fraser.

Jax State posted nine of the 14 shots in the final 45 minutes. Junior Nanaka Inaba led the club with three shots, while three other Gamecocks recorded two shots each.

"Everybody is giving us everything they have and we have a fit squad and it was good to get Laleh (Lonteen) back out there tonight. We are on the right track, but it has been two moments that have beaten us in the last two matches," added Fraser.

The Gamecocks will host in-state foe Alabama State on Thursday night at the Jax State Soccer Complex.

"It will be a good game for us and we need to get back on the winning track. I have no doubt in my mind that the kids will work hard this week and they will correct what we need to correct and get ready to go again," continued Fraser.

Admission is free to all home matches. The match will also be streamed on ESPN+.
