LAFAYETTE, LA. – The Gamecocks fell in five sets in the opening match of the Ragin' Cajuns Classic to hosting Louisiana Thursday evening.
The opening set was a close one throughout with the Gamecocks (7-4) able to take it 26-24. In the second, the set was extended again, but this time Louisiana (3-7) came out on top 29-27. Louisiana pulled away toward the end of the third to take a 2-1 advantage after a 25-20 set three victory. Jax State completely dominated in the fourth set, winning 25-10. The tides changed in the fifth set however, as Louisiana clinched the win 15-3.
Kayla Williams paced the Gamecocks with 17 kills on the night. She also added eight digs.
Sanni Rantanen was second on the team in kills with 14 and had a .355 hit percentage.
Katelyn Crofts led the Gamecocks with a .667 hit percentage.
Ellie Garrett totaled 41 assists, 10 digs, and six kills.
Brooklyn Schiffli had a team-best 21 kills, followed by
Madison Konopka with 12, respectively.
Jax State will move on to face Southeastern Louisiana Friday at 3 p.m. in the Ragin' Cajuns Classic. The match will not be broadcasted, but live stats will be available to follow on JaxStateSports.com.
