ARLINGTON, Texas—Jax State won its last three matches of traditional play during the second day at the International Training and Research Center and holds a 33-pin lead on the field with one Baker match remaining before bracket play.
The Gamecocks dropped their first match of the day to Nebraska, 1070-1007 then to the only unbeaten team in the field, North Carolina A&T by the score of 1,066-1,021.
They bounced back in a big way against Duquesne with their highest total of the day at 1,124 to pick up their first win of the day, led by a 269 from
Anna Warkel with eight consecutive strikes.
Melia Mitskavich added a 243, striking on her first four and last five attempts.
Warkel is seventh on the individual leaderboard with a 226.6 average.
Once again, Jax State had a classic battle with Arkansas State and came away with a 1,098-1,085 victory with Mitskavich leading with a 248 and
Erin Klemencic adding a 236. Mitskavich had eight strikes and three single-pin spares which she converted all of.
Mitskavich is 18
th on the individual leaderboard with a 219.2 average.
In the final match of the day, the Gamecocks had to hold off Maryville 1,093-1,083 with Annaliese OBryant picking up a tough four-pin split spare and a strike in the 10
th to seal it.
Dannielle Henderson had the high score of the match with a 257 with 10 strikes, a two-pin spare, and a single-pin spare converted.
Jax State will face Youngstown State in a Baker match to start play on Sunday at 8:25 a.m., then will head into bracket play.
