
Campbell Wins; Men’s Golf Second in Statesboro

Stanley Campbell was the medalist at the Bash in the Boro hosted by Georgia Southern University, picking up his first win as a Gamecock.
As a team, Jax State was the runner-up behind the hosts by 16 shots. The Gamecocks shot a two-over total of 290 in the first round on Monday and followed it up with a 12-under round of 276 and ended the tournament with a 283 on Tuesday.
The 276 was the second lowest total of the entire tournament behind Campbell's 274 in the same round.
Campbell claimed the title on the second playoff hole with a birdie. During the first round, the junior posted a two-under total of 70, then got hot early in the second round with a four-under run over four holes with an eagle on the Par 5, 504-yard ninth en route to a 67. In the final round, Campbell was three-under through the front nine, but took a double on the Par 5 11th. He answered with a run of three birdies in four holes to get back to four under and finished with a 69.
Campbell's 15 birdies were the second most in the field.
Ryley Heath took 14th with a 54-hole total of -3. The senior came back from a 74 in the first round with a 69 in the second and a 70 in the third.
Will Drake was 26th at one over and Karel Marik was 27th at two over. Drake answered his first round 76 with round of 71 and 70. Marik had an even-par round of 72 in the first, followed by a pair of one-over rounds.
Ben Shedd was a shot back in a tie for 28th with rounds of 71, 74, and 74. In his Jax State debut, Tyler Neidel was 56th with rounds of 75, 69, and 81.
The Gamecocks will close out the fall in two weeks at the FAU Invitational at Panther National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
