Gamecocks Wrap up Weekday CUSA at Middle Tennessee

MURFRESSBORO, Tenn.—Jax State plays their third and final Weekday CUSA game of the 2025 season this evening at Middle Tennessee State. Kickoff is at 6:35 p.m. Central Time on ESPN2.

The Gamecocks hit a walk-off field goal to beat Sam Houston, then used a pair of takeaways to beat Delaware in their two prior midweek clashes.

The ground game has been key to the offense with junior Cam Cook leading the FBS in rushing with 949 yards. The two-time Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Delaware.

On defense, freshman Mac Sanders has racked up 31 tackles in his four starts at linebacker and was named Conference USA's Freshman of the Week after making 10 tackles with 1.5 for loss, and forcing a fumble that Caleb Nix returned 45 yards for a touchdown.

The Blue Raiders have been in one-score games each of their last three times out. Quarterback Nick Vattiato makes his 32nd consecutive career start. In his two previous starts against Jax State, Vattiato has thrown for 715 yards and four touchdowns.

Middle Tennessee leads the all-time series 14-4-2 but the Gamecocks have won three in a row including Weekday CUSA games the last two years. Jax State scored 21 fourth quarter points to rally back to win in 2023 and got 210 rushing yards from Tre Stewart to win last year's contest at AmFirst Stadium.
