
Volleyball Continues Home Stand Against Missouri State

JACKSONVILLE – Volleyball is set to host Missouri State Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. for their second consecutive home series. This weekend is "Dig Pink," so fans are encouraged to wear pink to the games.
The Gamecocks are 8-8 after a pair of home victories on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4 against CUSA foe Middle Tennessee. Oct. 3 saw the Gamecocks count 19 service aces, the most by a Jax State team in a single match in the modern era.
Against the Blue Raiders, Luci Wilkinson totaled 43 digs on 4.78 digs per set. Wilkinson also added 10 assists and five service aces. Thanks to her efforts against the Blue Raiders, Wilkinson won her second CUSA Defensive Player of the Week award. Her first award came on Sep. 8 after a great weekend in three matches at the Chattanooga Invitational.
Other Gamecocks that starred against MTSU includes Kayla Williams, Charlee Solomon, Sanni Rantanen, Amaya Tolentino, and Morgan Blazzard. Offensively, Williams led the Jax State attack with 36 kills on 4.00 kills per set. Williams also added 15 digs and six aces. Tolentino had 21 kills on 2.33 kills per set, while Rantanen had 19 kills on 2.11 per set. Rantanen had a team-best seven aces.
Solomon had 73 assists on 8.11 assists per set, 24 digs on 2.67 per set, five aces, seven kills, and two block assists. Defensively, Rantanen led the Gamecocks with five total blocks, while Tolentino had the next most with four. Blazzard had 18 digs on 2.00 per set on the back row. Blazzard also scored five aces over the two matches.
Williams currently ranks second in CUSA with 249 total kills and 4.02 kills per set. Rantanen and Williams are tied for fourth in the league with 24 total service aces. Solomon's 552 assists are the most in the conference, while her 8.90 assists per set ranks third. Wilkinson is second in CUSA with 279 total digs and an average of 4.50 digs per set.

They then fell 3-0 to FIU on Sep. 27. Last week, Western Kentucky defeated Missouri State 3-1 on Oct. 3 and 3-0 on Oct. 4. Lizanyela Lopez and Grace Smith have impressed at the net thus far for the Bears. Lopez is first in CUSA with 67 total blocks and second with an average of 1.20 blocks per set. Smith is third in average blocks per set with 1.19. Smitih has 51 total blocks, the seventh most in the league. The matchups Friday and Saturday mark the first ever meetings between Jax State and Missouri State.
