JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State (3-0) Men's Basketball team welcomes South Alabama (5-0) to The Pete on Wednesday night in a battle of the unbeatens. Jax State defeated Coastal Carolina this past weekend to move to 3-0 on the year.

Mostapha El Moutaouakkil leads all of NCAA Division I in points per game this season with 26.7 points per contest this season. El Moutouakkil tallied 33 against Coastal Carolina this past week on his way to earning conference weekly honors
 
El Moutouakkil Named CUSA Player of the Week
After averaging 26.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game in two games this past week El Moutaoukkil was named the CUSA Player of the Week. The Gamecocks defeated Coastal Carolina and Reinhardt in two home contests, with El Moutaouakkil leading the Gamecocks in both games.
 
Home Sweet Home
Across the last seven seasons, Jacksonville State boasts a record of 59-26 in The Pete. The Gamecocks have specifically dominated the non-con ranks, turning in a total record of 26-5 record in non-conference home games since the 2019-20 season.
 
Family Ties
South Alabama redshirt sophomore John Broom has familial ties to Jax State. Broom's mother, Tracy, is one of the most decorated members in Jax State WBB history. Broom, then Tracy Linton, was named to the Jax State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 and currently serves as an Assistant AD at Jax State. She is the all-time leading rebounder in Jax State and Gulf South Conference history.
 
Franklin's Reunion
For the second consecutive season, Jamar Franklin is set to face his former school, South Alabama. Franklin spent the 2022-23 season in Mobile before transferring to Georgia Southern for the 2023-24 season. Jax State will face the Jaguars in The Pete on Wednesday. Last year, Franklin tallied eight points on 3-for-5 shooting in Mobile against USA.
 
Vungo Pulls Boards
Jax State forward Bencao Vungo pulled down 16 rebounds on Nov. 10 against Reinhardt. In just his second game in a Gamecock uniform, Vungo became the first player since Brandon Huffman nabbed 16 rebounds against Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 7, 2021 to surpass the 15-rebound mark in a single game.

The State of Hoops
Jax State (3-0) and South Alabama (5-0) are the only two Division I teams in the state of Alabama  that are left undefeated in 2025. Nationally ranked Alabama (No. 11) and Auburn (No. 22) have each suffered one loss already this season. Samford, North Alabama, Troy, Alabama A&M, UAB and Alabama State round out the other in-state Division I teams to have suffered at least one loss this season.
