Women's Basketball Takes On New Orleans Saturday

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Jax State women's basketball hits the road for the second game in a row to play the New Orleans Privateers on Saturday inside New Orleans' Lakefront Arena.

Last Time Out
Jax State is coming off a 76-51 loss to SEC foe Georgia on Nov. 16. The Gamecocks led the Bulldogs after one quarter and only trailed by seven heading into the halftime intermission. Georgia's offense came alive in the third as they took a 56-39 into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Pair of Gamecocks Shine against UGA
Against SEC foe Georgia on Nov. 16, a pair of Gamecocks showed out. Maria Sanchez-Ponce paced the Gamecocks with 14 points on 50% shooting from the field, while Brooklyn McDaniel added 12 points on 50% shooting as well.
Jones Scores 26
In the loss to Southern Miss on Nov. 13, Adriana Jones led the Gamecocks with 26 points. Jones' 26 points against the Golden Eagles was only the third time in the last five years that a Jax State player has scored 25 or more points in a contest. Kennedy Gavin scored 27 against Kennesaw State on Jan. 19, 2023, and Rachel Johnson scored 25 against FIU on Feb. 24, 2024.
Hobdy Starred at UNA
Junior Shelton State transfer Makala Hobdy shined in Monday's loss to UNA for Jax State with a team-high 16 points and eight rebounds. The point guard from Troy shot 6-14 from the field and 2-6 from three in her 30 minutes of action against the Lions.
Shelton State Connection
Hobdy is not the only Gamecock who played two years at Shelton State Community College. Senior forward Mya Barnes played for the Buccaneers for two seasons before transferring to Jax State. Jones also played a pair of seasons at Shelton before transferring to Troy University for the 2024-25 season. Jones was a sophomore for Shelton during Hobdy's freshman campaign for the Bucs. Assistant coach Harley Cook was a student manager for the women's basketball program at Shelton for two seasons prior to coming to Jax State as a manager.
Series History versus New Orleans
New Orleans. The Gamecocks won the first matchup on Nov. 23, 2013, by a score of 54-51 in New Orleans. Most recently, Jax State won 57-47 at home on Dec. 20, 2024. UNO's lone victory came on Nov. 22, 2016, in Jacksonville, Ala., when they won 81-79.
