Volleyball Hosts NMSU In Final Home Series

JACKSONVILLE – Jax State volleyball is set for a pair of matches against New Mexico State Thursday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 2 p.m. The two matches against the Aggies will be the final two home volleyball contests of the season for Jax State.
The Gamecocks are coming off two losses last weekend at FIU. Jax State fell 3-2 on Oct. 31 to the Panthers. They then dropped the match on Nov. 1 to FIU by a score of 3-0. Jax State currently sits in a tie for seventh place as the CUSA season enters the final stretch with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Kayla Williams led the Gamecocks offensively with 34 kills on 4.25 kills per set. Sophia Schweikert followed with 20 kills on 2.50 kills per set. Amaya Tolentino added 12 kills and Sanni Rantanen totaled 11 kills. Charlee Solomon continued to be the team's top setter with 68 assists on 8.50 assists per set.
Solomon also had 19 digs on 2.38 digs per set, four total blocks, four service aces, and seven kills against the Panthers. Luci Wilkinson led the Gamecocks with 25 digs on a team-best 3.13 digs per set. Morgan Blazzard followed Wilkinson with 23 digs on 2.88 digs per set. Williams had 16 digs and Rantanen had 15 digs, respectively. Rantanen led the Gamecocks with seven total blocks against FIU, while D'Yanna Spicer had the next most with five.
Williams is first in CUSA this season with 393 kills and her average of 4.18 kills per set also ranks first in the conference. Wilkinson is first in digs per set in CUSA averaging 4.40 per set and is second in total digs with 414. Solomon is first in CUSA in total assists with 857 and ranks third in the league at 9.12 assists per set

The Aggies are coming off a 1-1 weekend against Louisiana Tech on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. On Oct. 31, NMSU downed LA Tech 3-1. LA Tech earned their first CUSA win of the season against the Aggies on Nov. 1 when they won 3-0. Maggie Lightheart leads CUSA and Aggies this season with 49 total service aces. Lightheart also leads the Aggies with 289 kills on 3.18 kills per set. Makayla Martinez has a team-best 287 digs on 3.54 digs per set. NMSU leads the all-time series 3-1 against the Gamecocks. Jax State won the first meeting 3-2 on Oct. 20, 2023. The Aggies have won three-straight including a 3-1 win last season on Nov. 9, 2024.
