The top-ranked Jax State bowling team picked up their second title in three events, claiming top honors at the Bulldog Classic, hosted by LA Tech in Fort Worth, Texas.

Jax State went 3-2 during each of the first two days, but led the field by nearly 400 total pins after Friday's five Baker game matches, and held a 272-pin advantage after the second day of play.

The two losses in Baker play were by 64 to No. 5 Wichita State and by 39 to No. 2 Nebraska.

The Gamecocks had a big start to traditional play on Saturday with a 1,163-996 win over No. 3 Vanderbilt before dropping a match to No. 6 Arkansas State by 18. Jax State came up 33 pins shy of No. 9 LA Tech before closing out the day with convincing wins over Florida A&M and No. 8 Sam Houston.

During Sunday's bracketed best-of-seven matches to determine the champion, Jax State jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the semifinal against Arkansas State with 247-203, 258-210, and 205-178 wins before the Red Wolves took the fourth 256-204. The Gamecocks clinched a spot in the title match with a 246-236 win in the fifth for a total pinfall of 1,160.

The Gamecocks then swept Florida A&M during its bye round match before getting a rematch with Arkansas State in the final.

Jax State won the first two 222-214, and 237-211 before Arkansas State responded with a 234-212 win. The Gamecocks closed out the weekend with 247-226 and 212-159 wins for another 4-1 victory. Â

Annalise Obryant earned all-tournament honors, finishing second in the field in traditional pinfall at 1,165 for a 233 average. The junior didn't have a game under 218 and had her best showing against the hosts on Saturday with a 248.

The team will return to action on January 16
th when it heads to New Castle, Delaware for the Northeast Classic, hosted by Sacred Heart.
