Women's Hoops Welcomes Point To The Pete Saturday Afternoon

JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's basketball is set to wrap up a three-game homestand Saturday against Point University at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Last Time Out
The Gamecocks are coming off a 60-35 victory over Brewton-Parker on Dec. 9. In the win, Jax State's defense shined holding the Barons to 12-of-56 shooting from the field and 4-of-27 from three. Makala Hobdy had an impressive day leading the Gamecocks with 14 points and adding 10 rebounds for her first-career double-double. Mya Barnes had a 12-point, 10 rebound double-double as well.
Back-to-Back Double-Doubles
Barnes had her second consecutive double-double against Brewton-Parker with her 12 points and 10 boards. Against Mercer on Dec. 6, Barnes also scored 12 points and had a career-high 13 rebounds. She is the first Gamecock with back-to-back double-doubles since Kennedy Gavin in the 2021-22 season.
Balanced Effort
Against Brewton-Parker, Eden Sample also scored double-figures with 10 points. Brooklyn McDaniel added nine points and nine rebounds, respectively.
Thornsbury's Career-High
Kyera Thornsbury had a career-high 18 points on Dec. 6 against Mercer in Jax State's win over the Bears. In the game, Thornsbury added a pair of assists and a rebound. She shot 6-of-11 from the field and 2-of-5 from three.
Next Man Up
In the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off hosted by Pacific, Jax State dealt with unfortunate injury luck. Freshman Mearah Whitehead, freshman Abril Ricart-Mensah, and sophomore Masa Buzic have missed multiple games this season. Mya Barnes missed the UC Davis game with an injury suffered in practice. Barnes returned against Pacific, but Maria Sanchez-Ponce missed the contest after suffering an injury the day prior against UC Davis. The Gamecocks have had eight players available since the tournament over Thanksgiving break.
