Five Score In Double-Digits as Jax State Handles Point

JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's basketball dominated Point from start to finish Saturday afternoon in Pete Mathews Coliseum with a 90-30 victory over the Skyhawks.
 
The Gamecocks had five players score double-figures, with Kyera Thornsbury matching her career-best with 18 points. Thornsbury shot 6-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-7 from three while adding six rebounds, three assists, and a steal to her stat line. Thornsbury previously set her career-high in scoring against Mercer on Dec. 6.
 
Adriana Jones came out hot in the first quarter, scoring eight of her 17 points in the first five minutes of the game. Jones shot 7-of-17 from the field, grabbed five rebounds, dished three assists, and had a pair of steals.
 
Makala Hobdy had impressive day, scoring 15 points, tying a team-high nine rebounds with Vitoria Carvalho, and leading the Gamecocks with six assists. Brooklyn McDaniel and Eden Sample both went for 14 points, eight rebounds, and shot 50% from the field in the winning effort.
 
The Gamecocks, who were down to seven available players due to injury, shot an impressive 34-for-77 from the field. They also knocked down 13-of-36 three pointers against the Skyhawks. Jax State dominated the paint by outscoring Point 40 to six from close range.
 
The home team also stymied the Skyhawks with their defensive intensity. Jax State held Point to 11-of-42 shooting from the field and 3-of-18 shooting from beyond the arc. Point's first made three came at the 9:48 mark in the third quarter.
 
Phallan Thomas led Point's offense with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 1-of-5 from three.
 
The Gamecocks limited Point to only nine first half points, while the Red-and-White poured in 55.  In the fourth quarter, a Sample made three gave the Gamecocks their largest lead of the night 90-29. Point's Thomas made 1-of-2 free throws to make it 90-30 with 45 ticks left on the clock.
 
Jax State will be on the road Wednesday, Dec. 17, to face Saint Louis at 4 p.m.
