Women's Basketball Closes Non-Con At Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Jax State women's basketball is set to close out the final non-conference contest of the 2025-26 season on the road at Presbyterian on Sunday, Dec. 21.

Last Time Out
Jax State fell 74-54 to Saint Louis on Dec. 17, snapping a three-game win streak. In the loss, Mya Barnes led the Gamecocks with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting and 3-of-7 from three. Barnes also matched Brooklyn McDaniel with a team-best eight rebounds. McDaniel scored the next most for Jax State with 13 points, while Kyera Thornsbury added 10 points, respectively.
Next Man Up
Jax State was down to seven players when they welcomed the Point Skyhawks into Pete Mathews Coliseum. Although the Gamecocks were shorthanded, five players scored double-figures in a dominant 60-point win over the Skyhawks on Dec. 13. The Gamecocks still only had seven available at Saint Louis on Dec. 17.
Seniors Stepping Up
Seniors Eden Sample and Brooklyn McDaniel have stepped up in their final season with the Gamecocks. Sample and McDaniel both had 14 points in Dec. 13's win over Point. Sample is averaging 6.8 points this season, while McDaniel is averaging 7.5 points per game. Both of them also average over three rebounds per game. McDaniel has scored in double-figures four times this season, including back-to-back games recently with 14 against Point and 13 against Saint Louis.
JUCO Duo
In the win over Point, former Shelton State Junior College transfers stood out. Makala Hobdy scored 15 points and tied for a team-best nine rebounds. Hobdy also led Jax State with six assists. Adriana Jones scored the next most points against the Skyhawks with 17. Jones pulled down five boards and had a pair of steals.
Back-To-Back Double-Doubles
Mya Barnes had consecutive double-doubles against Brewton-Parker on Dec. 9. Barnes scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Against Mercer on Dec. 6, Barnes scored 12 points and had a career-best 13 rebounds. She is the first Gamecock with back-to-back double-doubles since Kennedy Gavin in the 2021-22 season.
Barnes Preseason Honors
Barnes was selected to the 2025-26 Preseason All-CUSA Team. Barnes averaged 7.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks on 27.8 minutes per game last season. Barnes' 1.2 blocks per game and 35 total blocks ranked her fifth in the league in both categories last season.
Looking Ahead
Following the game at Presbyterian, Jax State will prepare for CUSA action. The Gamecocks open CUSA play hosting Western Kentucky on Friday, Jan. 2, at 6:30 p.m. Then, Jax State will host Middle Tennessee on Sunday, Jan. 4, at 2:30 p.m.
