Women's Basketball Continues Homestand Against Brewton-Parker

JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's basketball continues a three-game homestand Tuesday evening when they welcome the Brewton-Parker Barons into Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Last Time Out
Jax State snapped a two-game losing skid with a 72-62 victory over Mercer on Saturday, Dec. 6. The game against the Bears was also Jax State's first home game since Nov. 13. Jax State's first and fourth quarters helped them take down Mercer as the Gamecocks outscored Mercer 25-19 in the first period and 21-15 in the final 10 minutes. Four Gamecocks scored double figures against Mercer.
 
Thornsbury's Career High
Sophomore guard Kyera Thornsbury had a career-high 18 points against Mercer which also led the Gamecocks in the win. Thornsbury shot 6-of-11 from the field and went 2-of-5 from three. She also added a pair of assists and a rebound against the Bears.
 
Other Top Performances Versus Mercer
Mya Barnes impressed in the game against Mercer as she had a 12-point, 13 rebound double-double. The 13 boards led Jax State and also marked a new career-best for the senior forward. Brooklyn McDaniel added 13 points and Makala Hobdy scored 12. McDaniel shot an efficient 5-of-8 from the field against Mercer.
 
Djurdjevic's Breakout Weekend
Freshman forward Mina Djurdjevic had a breakout weekend at the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off. Against UC Davis, Djurdjevic had a career-best 17 points and 6 rebounds. Against Pacific, Djurdjevic scored 10 points and grabbed four boards.
 
Next Man Up
In the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off hosted by Pacific, Jax State dealt with unfortunate injury luck. Freshman Mearah Whitehead, freshman Abril Ricart-Mensah, and sopho­more Masa Buzic have missed multiple games this season. Mya Barnes missed the UC Davis game with an injury suffered in practice. Barnes returned against Pa­cific, but Maria Sanchez-Ponce missed the contest after suffering an injury the day prior against UC Davis.
 
Continuing the Homestand
Brewton-Parker visiting the Pete marks the second consecutive home game for the Gamecocks. The Gamecocks host Point on Dec. 13 to conclude a three-game homestand.
 
Series History
Jax State and Brewton-Parker will be matching up for the first time ever Tuesday evening.
