Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's Tennis Downed by Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, GA. – Jacksonville State women's tennis was blanked 4-0 Friday afternoon by the Georgia Southern Eagles in Statesboro, Ga. The Gamecocks had some tight matches, particularly in singles action, but they were not able to get on the scoreboard in the loss.
 
Thanks to Friday's results, Jax State now holds a 3-2 record on the year, while Georgia Southern improves to 6-2 this season.
 
The Gamecocks one of their doubles matches, but lost two to claim doubles point for the Eagles. The first doubles result of the day came on court three came in a 6-2 win for Jax State's Irene Artigas and Aneka Patel over Nanaka Kijima and Amelie Rosadoro. On court two, Lea Erenda and Polina Ramenskaja lost 6-4 to Hannah Eifert and Franzi Heinemann. Anna Syrova and Ella Tuomela were beaten 6-3 by Mackenzie Leopold and Lisen Rinman of Georgia Southern in the final doubles match of the day.
 
In singles, Erenda's match against Rinman finished first with a two-set win for Rinman. The scores were 6-4 in the first and 6-1 in the second. Court two finished next with Ramenskaja losing 6-2, 6-3 to Juliette Nask. Rosadoro clinched the win for the Eagles in a 7-5, 6-3 win on court five over Zuzana Pavelekova.
 
Syrova, Artigas, and Tuomela's singles courts all went unfinished. Syrova lost the first set on her court 6-4 before winning the second 6-4. Heinemann was leading 1-0 when the match was called. Artigas lost set one on her court 6-1 before winning 6-2 in set number two. Leopold held a 2-1 advantage over Artigas at the match's end. Finally, Tuomela won set one on court six in a 6-0 finish before Kijima responded in set two with a 6-0 in her favor. The match was left unfinished with Kijima leading 2-1 in the third.
 
The Gamecocks return home to the Jax State Tennis Courts Sunday at 12 p.m. for a match against Georgia State. The Red-and-White is currently 1-0 on their home court.
