Gamecocks Hand Bieser Career Win No. 350

JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville State head coach Steve Bieser collected career win No. 350 on Saturday after his Gamecocks turned in their third shutout of the season with a 10-0 blanking of Akron on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.

Coupled with a 3-1 win on Friday in the series opener, Jax State claimed its second weekend series of the early season and will look to complete the weekend sweep on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Jax State (6-1) broke open a 2-0 contest with a four-run fourth inning that saw the Gamecocks bat around. The bottom half of the Gamecock order sparked the big frame with junior Ace Williamson led off the inning with a double, followed by a bunt single by sophomore Sam Silas. Junior Colton Hegwood cleared the two Gamecock runners with the clubs' 10th double of the season. Junior Rob Gordon and senior Drew Collins recorded back-to-back RBI doubles in the inning.

Williamson and Collins were the pair of Gamecocks with multiple hits.

The Gamecocks took control of te contest with three more runs in the seventh after Collins recorded his third hit of the day with an infield single. It marks the third time that Collins has tallied three hits in a game this season.

Freshman Matthew Cash capped off the scoring with a solo home run over the right field wall in the eighth.

Jax State starter Karson Bonaparte was crisp in his second start of the season after being handed an early 2-0 after a two-run single from junior Grayson Ashe in the first plate appearance for the Gamecocks.

Bonaparte tossed 5.0 innings, scattering six Zips' hits and registering five strikeouts en route to picking up the win. The Gamecocks' bullpen limited the Zips to one hit over the final four frames as junior Ryan Geraghty followed Bonaparte for three innings of work before Jaxson Davis pitched a clean ninth.

Tickets for Sunday's finale are available online at JaxStateSports.com. All Jax State students and fans 18 years old and younger are admitted free. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and carried on the Gamecock Sports Network.
