FLORENCE, ALA. – Jacksonville State Women's tennis lost 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at North Alabama. The Lions got the win on their home court thanks to a claiming the doubles point, then defeating the Gamecocks in their singles efforts.
The Gamecocks' record is now at 4-3 in 2025, while UNA improves to 4-2 overall.
The Lions took the doubles point thanks to Emma Ansorge and Mathilde Delaney winning 6-3 over
Irene Artigas and
Aneka Patel on court two to get the day started.
Anna Syrova and
Zuzana Pavelekova then lost 6-4 to Stanislava Bobrovnikova and Eeva Ristola to clinch the doubles point for UNA.
Jax State's duo of
Polina Ramenskaja and
Lea Erenda were trailing Ada Karabacak and Senem Ocal 5-3 on court three, but their match went unfinished after court one's result ended doubles action.
Pavelekova tied the match at one point apiece with her straight-set win on court five in singles over Ocal. Pavelekova won 6-2 in both the first and second sets to take that match. In the number one slot, Ramenskaja lost 6-3, 6-2 to Bobrovnikova to put the Lions back on top 2-1.
The Lions took the next two singles matches to take the win 4-1. Karabacak beat Artigas 6-2 in the first set and 6-4 in the second, while Ristola conquered Syrova 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker) in the first and 6-4 in the second.
Erenda and
Ella Tuomela were in the midst of hotly contested matches that went unfinished as clinching singles point was taken by the Lions. On court two, Erenda took set one 7-5 over Ansorge before Ansorge took the second 6-4. Erenda was dominating 5-1 in the third when the match was called.
On court six, Tuomela handled Delaney in set one with a 6-1 triumph. Delaney responded by taking down Tuomela 6-1 in the second, sending the match to a third set. Tuomela was trailing 5-2 when the court was unfinished.
The Gamecocks move on to face Lipscomb on the road on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Following the match in Nashville, the Gamecocks head to Western Kentucky to take on the Hilltoppers at 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
