JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis won their first home match of the 2025 Spring season over Eastern Kentucky on Friday in a 4-0 final. The Gamecocks got their second straight win after winning the doubles point then dominating in singles at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
The Gamecocks improved to 2-1 on the year with the win, while Eastern Kentucky now sits at 4-6.
Doubles play went the way of Jax State from the start.
Anna Syrova and
Ella Tuomela beat EKU's Anstas Cherniakova and Masha Fedenko 6-2 on court one before
Lea Erenda and
Polina Ramenskaja handled Marilou Cote and Ceylin Ipek 6-3 on court two to clinch the doubles point.
Irene Artigas and
Aneka Patel were leading 5-4 over Zhansaya Bakytzhan and Izem Elif Olcer but their court went unfinished.
Erenda got a win over Fedenko on court one in a straight-set 6-0, 6-3 final. Ramenskaja continued her hot start to the season with a win in straight-sets with scores of 6-0 in set one and 6-3 in set two.
Zuzana Pavelekova got the fourth point for Jax State with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Zhansaya Bakytzhan.
Artigas, Syrova, and
Aneka Patel all went unfinished on their courts. Artigas won her first set 6-2 and was leading 4-2 in set two, Syrova won her first set 6-1 and was ahead 5-2 in the second, while Patel lost the first set 6-4 but was leading set two 2-1.
Jax State will now move on to face in-state rival Alabama A&M in Huntsville on Saturday. The match against the Bulldogs is set for a 2 p.m. first-serve.
