Box Score HUNTSVILLE, ALA. – Jacksonville State won their third straight match Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 final at Alabama A&M. The Gamecocks managed the Bulldogs in doubles and carried that momentum into singles action.
Jax State is now 3-1 on the year, while Alabama A&M falls to 0-2. After losing a tight match to open the season at Samford, the Red-and-White have quickly put themselves in a good heading into next Tuesday's match at North Alabama after a pair of wins this weekend over Eastern Kentucky on Friday and Alabama A&M Saturday.
Polina Ramenskaja and
Lea Erenda got the day started for the Gamecocks with a 6-2 win in doubles over Alabama A&M's Sofia Sotelo Raya and Ntokozo Zungu on court two.
Aneka Patel and
Irene Artigas then clinched the doubles point on court three with a 6-2 triumph over Alicia Owegi and Naomi Blanks.
Anna Syrova and Ella Toumela were leading 4-3 on court one over Yana Dhamija and Valentine Abide Talaki, but their match went unfinished thanks to the doubles point being clinched for the Red-and-White on court three.
Ramenskaja continued her solid start to the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Owegi on court two in singles to make it 2-0 Jax State. Artigas then downed Talaki with scores of 6-2 in set one and 6-1 in set two. Patel dominated Blanks in her 6-1 set one victory before winning a close second set 7-6 on court six.
Zuzana Pavelekova then won court five over Sotelo Raya in two sets. Pavelekova's scores in her straight-set match were 7-6, 6-3.
Syrova beat Gabrielle Henderson in set one 6-4. Henderson took set two 6-3, but Syrova responded in the third with a 12-10 tiebreaker win on court four. Erenda closed out the shutout win on court one. Zungu took the first set 6-4, but Erenda flipped the script in the second set with a 6-4 of her own. The match went down to a tiebreaker in the third set which Erenda won 10-4.
Jax State moves on to face Georgia Southern on Friday, Feb. 14. The match against the Eagles is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first-serve.
