LOCKPORT, Ill—Jax State holds a nearly 300-pin lead on the field after 10 matches at the Flyer Classic following a 4-1 day in traditional play.
The day started with a 1,160-961 win over Maryville, getting a 256 from Kiera Magsam who opened with six consecutive strikes and picked up a split in the seventh. The Gamecocks then knocked off Stephen F. Austin 1,042-903 with a 238 from
Emma Yoder as the high individual score.
Despite a 222 average against sixth-ranked North Carolina A&T, the Gamecocks couldn't keep pace with the 1,203 score the Aggies posted which was led by a 290 at the top of the order and two other scores north of 230.
Jax State bounced back with a 1,119-940 victory over Marian, paced by Yoder's 239.
In the finale,
Dannielle Henderson bowled a 244 and Yoder added a 237 to help the Gamecocks defeat Conference USA foe Valparaiso 1101-991.
Yoder leads the field in scoring with a 235.2 average followed by Henderson at 234.8.
One more team match will follow at 8:30 tomorrow morning to be followed by two rounds of best-of-seven bracket play.
