HARAHAN, La.—Top-seeded Jax State bowling knocked off Tulane in its first match of the Conference USA Championship Thursday morning with a 2-0 win in the mega match format.
The Gamecocks posted 1,040 pins in both the traditional and Baker rounds to sweep the match.
In traditional play, Jax State was led by
Erin Klemencic's 228 and
Annalise OBryant's 224.
During the series of five Baker games, the Gamecocks didn't get a strike until the eighth frame of the first game which started a streak of five in a row as Klemencic followed with a strike, and OBryant posted three in the 10
th to take a 213-158 advantage.
The Gamecocks took a 110-pin advantage through two games after winning 235-180 in the second with six straight strikes to close the match. In the third, Jax State got the left lane dialed in with seven strikes to win 234-229 and add to the lead. Tulane won the final two games 191-186 and 198-172, but the early advantage was enough for a 1,040-956 win.
Jax State will face Arkansas State tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at Colonial Lanes with the winner advancing to Saturday's semifinal. Arkansas State defeated Wichita State 2-1, taking the best-of-seven tiebreaker 4-3.
