HARAHAN, La.—Jax State swept its Conference USA Bowling Championship quarterfinal match against fourth-seeded Arkansas State with a 1,111-982 win in traditional play and a 1,041-1,011 win in Baker play in the mega match format.
The top-seeded Gamecocks will now face seventh-seeded Sam Houston on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship match.
All five players were over 200 for Jax State in the traditional games led by a 237 from
Dannielle Henderson.
Emma Yoder added a 224 and
Annalise OBryant followed with a 221.
Anna Warkel and
Erin Klemencic rounded out the lineup with a 215 and 214, respectively.
In Baker play, Jax State won the first 210-165 and followed with a 211-191 win in the second to open up a 65-pin advantage.
Fourth-seeded Arkansas State came back in the third with five straight strikes late in the match to win 221-199. The Red Wolves had seven strikes and four single-pin spares in the fourth for a 217-186 win to cut the Gamecocks' lead to just 12 heading to the final game.
Jax State trailed the final Baker game 69-35 after the Gamecocks left two of the first three frames open, but the Gamecocks rattled off eight straight strikes to come away with a 235-217 victory for a 30-pin win.
