Jax State Drops Game Two to Hot Swinging Liberty

JACKSONVILLE - The Jax State softball team lost its second game of the series on Saturday with a 12-3 loss to Liberty.

The Flames (17-12, 4-2 CUSA) claimed the series while the Gamecocks (20-11, 4-4 CUSA) look to steal the third game on Sunday.

The 12 runs scored by the Flames in Saturday's contest is the most scored by a Jax State opponent this season, surpassing the previous high of seven.

After stringing together a 3-0 shutout win in Friday's opener, Liberty jumped ahead to an 6-0 lead over Jax State in the first three innings.

The Flames added a pair in the fifth before Jax State found its way on the board for the first time this series when Aria Davis came round to score courtesy of a passed ball.

Morgan Nowakowski singled home a pair of runners just a few batters later, cutting the lead down to five with two frames to play.

Liberty tacked on four more runs in the top of the sixth, putting the run-rule into effect and leading to a 12-3 victory.

Jax State threatened to score in the home half of the inning, but could not capitalize on a bases-loaded one-out situation

Jax State infielder Ashley Phillips was the lone Gamecock to finish with a multi-hit outing, finishing her day at 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

The series finale against the Flames is set for an 11 a.m. first pitch on Sunday at Jana McGinnis Field.
