PENSACOLA, FLA. – Jacksonville State women's tennis earned a tough 4-3 victory at West Florida Tuesday afternoon. Anna Syrova and Zuzana Pavelekova carried over the momentum from the Wallace State match to help the Gamecocks over the Argonauts.
 
The win was clinched after the Argonauts won the doubles point. Syrova and Pavelekova teamed up on court two to defeat Nathalia Mossambani and Luiza Daud 6-2 in the first match to go final on the day. Irene Artigas and Aneka Patel then lost 6-4 on court three to Giuliana Sacco and Alberte Joergensen.
 
In the doubles point clinching match on court one, Ella Tuomela and Polina Ramenskaja fell 7-5 in a hard-fought battle against Sandra Recuenco and Carlota Verdu. The Argonauts led 1-0 heading into singles play.
 
Ramenskaja got the Gamecocks on the board on court five in singles with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Mossambani. Syrova then gave the Gamecocks a 2-1 advantage thanks to a 6-1, 7-5 win on court one over Carlota Verdu. Tuomela then won court six 6-1, 6-3 over Manuela Dejean to put the Gamecocks up comfortably at 3-1.
 
Pavelekova continued the Gamecocks' winning streak in singles with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Guadalupe Martinez to clinch the match for the Red-and-White.
 
On court two, Lea Erenda took the first set over Recuenco 6-4. Recuenco then responded with a 6-2 second set win and 6-3 third set win to take that match. The final match to conclude was Artigas against Aline Midori Da Silv on court three. Artigas lost the first set in a tough 7-6 (9-7) tiebreaker. Da Silv then won the second set 6-4.
 
Jax State will now look ahead to Tennessee State who comes to Jacksonville on Friday for a 10 a.m. first-serve at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
