JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis earned their third-straight win with an impressive 6-1 victory over Tennessee State at home. The Gamecocks took the doubles point, then won all but one singles court against the Tigers.
The duo of
Polina Ramenskaja and
Ella Tuomela got the day rolling for the Red-and-White with their 6-2 doubles win over Jovana Nikolic and Louise Ratiu on court one.
Zuzana Pavelekova and
Anna Syrova kept the winning going on court wo with their 6-4 triumph over Sydney Brantley and Fracisca Gomez-Weiss. Even with the doubles point clinched,
Irene Artigas and
Aneka Patel finished up on court three with a 7-6 (9-7) tiebreaking victory over Aroa Castillo and Victoria Cooksey.
Tuomela continued to have a great day on the court as she got the first singles point for Jax State with a pair of 6-0 dominating wins over Claudia Murdasanu in sets one and two on court six. Pavelekova also dominated on court four with 6-1 wins in sets one and two over Castillo to extend the Gamecocks' lead to 3-0.
On court five, Ramenskaja got a straight-set victory for herself as well. She defeated Cooksey 6-3 in both the first and second sets to put the Gamecocks in front 4-0. Artigas took care of Nikolic easily in the first set on court three in a 6-1 final. Nikolic fought hard in the second set, but Artigas was able to come out on top with a 7-5 win.
The final two singles matches went to tiebreaking third sets with Jax State and Tennessee State splitting the results. Erenda took the first set 6-4 on court two before Sydney Brantley reversed the score in set two with a 6-4 win of her own. Erenda was able to win the third set 1-0 (10-5) to make it 6-0 Gamecocks. Syrova and Gomez-Weiss completed the last match of the day on court one. Syrova won the first set 6-2 before Gomez-Weiss took the second set 6-4. Gomez-Weiss got the lone point of the day for TSU with her 1-0 (10-5) victory in the third set over Syrova.
The Gamecocks are now 9-5 after their win over the Tigers who fall to 1-11 this season. Jax State will head to Middle Tennessee to take on the Blue Raiders Saturday at 1 p.m. Links to livestream and view live stats of the match in Murfreesboro are available at JaxStateSports.com.
