MURFREESBORO, TN. – Gamecocks women's tennis's three-match win streak was snapped Saturday afternoon at Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders downed the Gamecocks 4-2.
Although the Gamecocks lost, they were able to capture the doubles point.
Ella Tuomela and
Polina Ramenskaja cruised to a 6-0 win over Middle's Sara Conde and Eloise Swarbrick. Following them,
Zuzana Pavelekova and
Anna Syrova defeated Rutuja Chaphalkar and Alessia Truden 6-2 to clinch the point.
Irene Artigas and
Aneka Patel were tied 5-5 with Cassidy Mataia and Ilaria Sposetti when their match on court three was unfinished as the Gamecocks won doubles.
Ramenskaja was on the first singles court to be completed. Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, Ramenskaja fell 6-3, 6-2 to Mataia on court five. Artigas then lost 6-3 in both the first and second sets against Lena Peyer.
Pavelekova tied the match at 2-2 with her court four triumph over Conde. In set one, Pavelekova won 6-2 before taking the second set in a tight 7-5 battle.
Lea Erenda blanked Iaria Sposetti 6-0 in their first set. Sposetti then took the second 6-3 before reversing set one's final with a 6-0 win of her own in the third. Zenn Lim clinched the win for Middle with her 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tuomela on court six.
Syrova took on Alessia Truden on court one. Truden took the opening set 6-3, but Syrova responded with a 6-4 win in the second. Syrova led 3-0 when the match was unfinished after Middle clinched the afternoon win.
The Gamecocks will move on to face UAB at home on Tuesday, April 1, at home. The in-state rivalry match is set for a 1 p.m. serve at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
