JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Jax State tallied 16 runs for the second consecutive night en route to a dominant 16-0 victory over the Alabama State Hornets on Wednesday an Jana McGinnis Field.

The Gamecocks (15-7) run-ruled the Hornets (2-19) in five innings for their sixth shutout win of the season.

Reigning CUSA Pitcher of the Week
Jaliyah Holmes got the nod for Jax State and started off her afternoon with three straight strikeouts.

Jax State got to work early on the offensive end, stringing together six first inning runs. Freshmen
Aria Davis and
Jaci Underwood both tallied RBI hits in the first inning of action.

After an
Abbi Perkins sac fly,
Ashley Phillips launched her second home run of the season, this one of the three-run variety. Underwood then tallied her second run-scoring hit of the evening with a single back up the middle, making it 11-0.

Jax State added a few more insurance runs in the third courtesy of a
Kailey Martin two-run homer and a
Haleigh Cushingberry double. Junior
Ella Pate also added a third inning sac fly.

Jordan Eslinger entered in relief for Holmes after three innings and carved out a pair of scoreless frames of her own.

With the win, Holmes moves to 4-2 on the season.

After pouring on 16 runs at West Georgia on Tuesday, Jax State matched the mark yet again. Entering the week, Jax State had not scored 16 runs in a game since Feb. 16, 2020 when the Gamecocks defeated Charleston 20-9.

Despite the 16-run barrage, only Phillips and Underwood finished their outings with multiple hits, both earning a pair.Â

Phillips had four RBI's against the Hornets while Cushingberry tabbed three of her own. Four other Gamecocks finished Wednesday's game with two RBI's.

Jax State returns to Jana McGinnis Field this weekend for the Conference USA opening series against UTEP on March 7-9.
