OXFORD, Miss. – Jacksonville State dropped the final game of the series with No. 17 Ole Miss, 13-2, on Sunday afternoon at Swayze Field on the UM campus.
The Rebels turned in a pair of big innings to break open a 1-0 contest early with a four-run fourth and added three runs in the fifth inning. For the second time in the weekend series, Ole Miss used the home run ball with three more on Sunday to build the lead. Isaac Humphrey put the powder-blue clad Rebels on the board with a solo home run in the second inning. Ryan Moerman provided the runs in the fifth inning with a three-run home run. Moermon ended it with a grand slam in the eighth inning.
Jax State had chances early to put runs up with seven stranded in the first three innings. Junior
Colton Hegwood wasted no time in extending his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the first inning.
The Gamecocks' two runs came in the sixth inning with an RBI fielder's choice from senior
Drew Collins and run on a Rebel wild pitch. Junior
Caleb Johnson scored on Collins' fielder's choice after starting the inning with a walk. Junior
Carson Hornung scored on the wild pitch after reaching base on his fifth hit of the weekend following Johnson's walk.

Cooper Blauser extended his on-base streak to 16 games after reaching base on a Rebel miscue on the infield.
Jax State returns to action on Tuesday against in-state rival Troy on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Tickets are available online at JaxStateSports.com. All Jax State students and fans 18 years old and younger are admitted free. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Following the Troy contest, the Gamecocks will have their final non-conference series as a tune up for Conference USA play in two weeks. Former Ohio Valley Conference rival Southeast Missouri will be in town next weekend at The Jim.
