Bowling Claims USBC Sectional Title

Three Qualify for Individual Singles Championship

SMYRNA, Tenn.—Jax State bowling earned a trip to the Intercollegiate Team Championship in Las Vegas April 16-19 and had three players qualify for the Intercollegiate Singles Championship during play at the USBC Sectional held at Smyrna Bowl.
 
During singles play on Friday, the Gamecocks had three players qualify for the Intercollegiate Singles Championship led by Melia Mitskavich who was the overall leader with a six-game total of 1394 for a 232.3 average. The freshman posted a best game of 268 in the final round to secure the individual title. Erin Klemencic was second, also earning a spot in the ISC field with a total of 1356, posting a 255 in the final round. Anna Warkel claimed the final qualifying spot in the sectional by posting a 214 in the final round for a total of 1318. Warkel forced a roll-off which she won 216-204.
 
Dannielle Henderson was seventh in the field, just missing a spot in the top five by three pins and finishing with a total of 1315. Annalise OBryant placed 13th with a total of 1288 and Keira Magsam was 14th, posting a perfect game of 300 in the final round for a total of 1283.  
On Saturday, Jax State ran out to a 255-pin lead over Stephen F. Austin with a 214.18 average in the first 16 Baker games of the weekend, highlighted by a near-perfect 299 in the 12th game. During the second block of 16, the Gamecocks averaged 207.8 and ran their first-place lead up to 372 over SCAD Savannah.
 
Sunday, the Gamecocks started with a 16-game block score of 1,559 which was second-best in the morning session and increased their lead by 33 pins, building some momentum in the 40th round with a best game of 214. The tournament closed with a final block total of 3220 which is a 201.25 average and again helped Jax State increase its lead.
 
Jax State finished with a 434-pin advantage over SCAD Savannah. Maryville University and Stephen F. Austin were the final two qualifiers from the field.
 
The Gamecocks will be back in Smyrna next weekend for the Columbia 300 Music City Classic.
