JACKSONVILLE - Jax State finished off its series sweep of the Kennesaw State Owls on Sunday with a 5-2 victory in the series finale. Jax State took the opener 9-7 on Friday before winning the Saturday contest 5-2 as well.

Jax State (27-17, 10-8 CUSA) earned a much needed series sweep over Kennesaw State (10-34, 1-17 CUSA). With the win, the Gamecocks move into sole possession of fifth in the CUSA standings.

Ashley Phillips doubled home a run in the second frame to give the Gamecocks an early advantage in Sunday's contest, but the lead was short-lived.

Kennesaw tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth inning to claim its first lead of the afternoon 2-1.

Amber Reed singled with one out before a Makalyn Kyser walk and Jaci Underwood hit by pitch loaded the bases in the fifth. Aria Davis then walked with the bases loaded as Megan Rasmussen hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to take the lead at 3-2.

Phillips slugged her second RBI double of the day to add another run before Haleigh Cushingberry made the lead 5-2 after beating out an infield single.

After entering the game in the third MacKinley Portillo shut down the Owl offense, tossing 3.2 innings, allowing just three hits and one walk.Â

Phillips finished her evening a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI's and a walk.

With two hits in Sunday's game, Cushingberry extends her hitting streak to 12 games, the longest streak by a Gamecock this season. It is the first multi-hit game of her career.

Reed joined Phillips and Cushingberry as the third Jax State batter with multiple hits on Sunday.Â
