OXFORD – Hailey Tucker and
Uduak Pius Udosoh each earned first place finishes in their respective events while
Cayla Johnson placed second in the heptathlon in the second day of action in the Joe Walker Invite. Tucker earned first in the 400m hurdles while Udosoh took home first in hte 400m dash.
For the second consecutive week Tucker took home gold in the 400m hurdle, this week clocking a time of 59.99, sneaking under the one-minute mark for the fourth best in program history. Last week, Tucker set the program record in the 400m hurdle at the UAB Spring Invite. "
Just one day after leading Jax State in the 200m dash, Udosoh took home an individual victory in the 400m with a time of 55.55. The freshmen placed eighth out of 63 participants in the 200m on Friday.
After exiting day one with the best score in the heptathlon, Johnson strung together three individual events that included a second place finish in the long jump at 5.64m. Johnson's point total of 4878, trailing just Bailey Porch's mark of 4861 set in 2021.
Bethelhem Manzano Jimeno and
Charity Mabuza also starred for Jax State on Saturday, with Jimeno taking home second in the 800m and Mabuza doubling up on events with a pair of top 10 placements.
Mabuza earned eighth in the 800m, just behind Jimeno while also placing seventh in the 1500m, finishing as the top Gamecock finisher out of five participants.
Linda Grundmann and
Maxima Majer each placed among the top 20 in the 1500m as well.
In the short distance events,
Nicola Peters earned a ninth place finish in the 100m with a 12.01 dash while
Sky White set a new personal best in the 100m hurdles with 15.35.
The Gamecock men also showed out in a pair of events, with Mark Roper placing first in the 1500m, finishing five spots ahead of Jack Lowe in sixth. A trio of Gamecocks finished one after another in the 5000m, as Juan Camacho Tabuenca, Blake Grahama and J.R. Proctor took home fourth through sixth place.
In the field, one day removed from a sixth place placement in the javelin throw,
Jadyn Bonds took home eighth in the high jump at 1.60m.
Jax State returns to action in two weeks at the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 18-19 in Atlanta.
